Tor' Gwathren

Tattered Tale

Book 1.  Prologue. Dauhren Meets With the Istrai.

"Indeed Orlien the Ranks of mist and shadow come forth to assist you and your order in good time." Dauhren takes his seat at a table already filled with prominent persons of Middle Earth, including  Aiwendil, Radagast the Brown, Sauron, Alatar and Pallando members of the Istrai. Orlien (Gandalf) stands and stares into Oblivion before speaking on the pressing matter at hand. "I have sent for the young master Dauhren so we may make use of his skills in the matters of middle earth. Orlien pauses for a moment and smiles at Dauhren " I do hope we make good use of him and his sect of qualified individuals."  Orlien proceeds to speak as he eyes everyone present . "Tor' Gwathren is what it has been decided to call them." It was just then when Orlien caught the eye of a member of the order. Sauron not so approving of this recent development had a discontented look on his face.

"Yes, Sauron, you had something to say?" Orlien looking on with a frustrated look on his face nods at the already troubled member. Sauron now noticing he had the floor, cleared his throat and made ready to present his case of distaste for the new endevor of the order of the Istrai. "I, for one, find these roughings you call a sect of our order to be a poor representation of good will sir Orlien and would not have part in the plans you seem to be as so kind to unveil before us." The room grew cold and everyone could feel the tension grow even more so then what it was before Dauhren entered its chambers.  Dauhren decided to leave with his orders from the Istrai, as Orlien gave him a look of approving concern.  Before he left, however, he noticed a tightly wound scroll on the table by the exit with a seal that he recognized from his earlier dealings with Orlien.  Dauhren slowly but surely took the scroll without notice and left the chamber.  When returning to his stoop in beggar's ally, Dauhren opened the scroll and saw what was inside:

Dauhren, I know your life has been a hard one and I know you have gotten yourself into much trouble over the                       years of your youth.  However, I encourage you in your new found maturity to continue the quest I have sent you on.               I know that you will get yourself into situations of trouble, as by nature, you are mischievious.  I also know, however,               that you are clever and of a good core deep inside.  Your capabilities may have provided you with opportunity to                     get you into trouble but I know that you will grow in putting them to good use.  I also know that this will be easy with                 company of similar skill and wit.  I know that you prefer to be alone Dauhren, however, I encourage you to find                         others of like mind so that you may encourage one another and increase your ranks for the charge I have given you.             Defend Middle Earth, Dauhren, and take others with you.  Look for my messages, as I will send for you again.

Dauhren leaned back into the pile of blankets that he had acquired throughout the years and sighed.  He looked around the ally and realized that his time there was done.  Picking up only that of most importance to him, he sojourned on.

Book1. Chapter 1.  Those of Worthy Company.

Dauhren had been battling the foes of Middle Earth arduously as Orlien had charged, taking his suggestions to mind.  Weeks had passed since he read the letter that Orlien had left for him.  He had not heard from Orlien again and this troubled him, as he had grown fond of the company of the wise man.  While having a drink at the Forsaken Inn and pondering his feelings, he realized that indeed he did enjoy the close company of others.  "I will not change myself" he said to himself as he shook his drink while pondering taking on the company that Orlien had suggested.  ((to be continued))
